Illustrative plumbing call
“There’s water under my sink. Do you cover my ZIP code, and when could someone come out?”
That may be a job enquiry. Whether it becomes paid work depends on your service area, availability and follow-up.

Completed jobs to cover the estimated Penny bill
1 jobs at your assumed contribution per job
This scenario does not measure revenue attributable to Penny. Contribution excludes your fixed overhead and taxes, so it is not net profit. Outcomes depend on suitable callers, your capacity and paid, completed work.
A useful estimate starts with your records
Check the calls behind the number.
Start with the call log
Count missed calls over a typical month. Separate repair enquiries and quote requests from suppliers, spam and calls about work already booked.
Use completed, paid work
Look at invoices for jobs you can actually take on. A booked visit may be cancelled; an answered call may never become a booking. Allow for both.
Subtract the cost of the job
Materials, job-specific labour and other variable costs reduce what is left from an invoice. Fixed overhead and taxes are still outside this estimate.
Product facts checked October 12, 2026 against Penny’s published plans: monthly plans start at $99 with 200 included minutes. Minutes renew monthly and do not roll over, including on yearly plans. Usage is measured by the second; additional minutes are billed monthly at your plan’s rate. The calculator uses monthly billing; yearly pricing is shown on the pricing page.

Using the calculator
How is the missed-call estimate calculated?
Missed calls × the share that are job enquiries × your assumed additional completed-job rate gives a hypothetical job count. Multiply by your average invoice for gross revenue, then by your contribution margin for contribution. The calculator subtracts the estimated Penny bill separately.
Are the example values plumbing industry averages?
No. Every starting value is an invented example. Check your own call log, invoices and job costs. Separate new enquiries from existing customers, spam and suppliers, and exclude jobs you would have won anyway.
Does answering a missed call guarantee a new job?
No. A caller may be outside your service area, need work you do not offer, or choose another business. Your availability, follow-up and completion rate matter. This calculator does not predict Penny’s conversion rate or measure revenue attributable to Penny.
Is contribution the same as profit?
No. Contribution is job revenue after job-specific labour, materials and other variable costs. Fixed overhead and taxes still have to be covered. The final figure subtracts Penny’s estimated bill, but it is not net profit.
Which calls count toward Penny’s usage?
The estimate includes the missed calls you plan to have answered plus other calls Penny would handle. It multiplies that total by your assumed average call length, applies your plan’s included minutes, and prices any additional minutes. Actual usage is measured by the second.
Does Penny save my calculator entries?
No. The calculator runs in this page. It does not save your inputs, add them to signup links, or send them to analytics. No name, email address or phone number is needed.
